*SALE* Death Becomes Her

Something just kinda hit me and I decided to offer the digital edition of  Death Becomes Her for only $0.99 for a limited time. This is the slightly morbid (the heroine steals dead bodies for the anatomy schools) serial Regency romance I wrote for InD'tale Magazine over the course of a year.

But there's a bonus! This compilation includes a short story called The Devil She Knows that the magazine's readers didn't get to see. This is a story I wrote just for my readers and fans, a thank you just for being you. I hope you enjoy it! ♥

Get your copy from Amazon (US), Amazon (UK), Amazon (CA), Amazon (AU), Smashwords, B&N, Apple (iTunes), or Kobo.

This offer is only good until Jan 1, 2016 so tell your friends and grab your discounted copy while you can! Have a wonderful rest of 2015, my lovelies!

The LAST Heartless Kindle Promotion

Heartless will be free again, starting at midnight tonight (PST). This is the LAST TIME Heartless will be free in the Kindle store so take advantage while you can.

In case FREE isn't enough and you need more convincing, here's the blurb:

A dark stranger....
Finding herself abandoned after the death of her father, Leandra Harcourt takes the greatest risk of her life. She accepts the marriage proposal of a complete stranger, the Duke of Derringer—a man the world calls Lord Heartless.

A heartless proposal....
A desperate girl with no prospects seems the perfect solution to Derringer's most recent problem: marry before his 30th birthday to gain his rightful inheritance, though marriage is the last thing he needs. The need to find his missing cousin takes priority over any silly marriage and he quickly abandons his new bride in the wreck of his family estate.

A perfect love....
Two people were never more suited for each other than the duke and his wife, but will they discover it before it's too late? With an assassin dogging his heels and a suitor wooing his wife, love will not have the luxury of time.

THIS LINK will take you to the US Kindle Store. The book will be free in Kindle stores worldwide. Make sure you wait until it says $0.00 (not just for Prime Members) when you click the purchase button or you will be charged the regular list price of $2.99.

Goals for 2012 UPDATE

I just read my first post of 2012, the one where I outlined the writing goals I'd set for myself. Well, here are the results.

There's bad news. I only accomplished three of my eleven writing goals. Three is so much better than none, or one, or two, though, so I'll take it!

Heartless was on the agenda for 2012. I managed to get that done, even though it wasn't until November that I finally got it submitted. It's now [again] my bestseller.

My Lady Coward got her HEA and the compiled short stories were submitted and published by TreasureLine Publishing. It's now my second bestseller, even though all the shorts are still free for online reading (with a little site-hopping).

The biggest [and hardest for me] goal that I accomplished was SELL MORE BOOKS. This goal was achieved beyond my wildest dreams. The only reason it happened was due to all the lovely book lovers out there who decided to take a chance on one or more of my books.

Just to give you an idea of the upsurge, in October 2012, my Kindle sales totaled 23 books. That's for six (6) titles, worldwide. The combined sales of my titles from all the other eBook retailers was even less. Sad, right?

Then Heartless came out in early November and I enrolled it in KDP Select. I sold a few dozen copies of Heartless and a handful of my other titles before making Heartless free for two days near the end of the month. After that, sales spiked. Over 14,000 copies of Heartless were downloaded worldwide during the two free days and my November sales totaled 191 books (7 titles) worldwide. Quite a difference.

My December sales have been through the roof and I couldn't be more pleased. I had another free day mid-month where 1825 copies were downloaded. Sales didn't really spike after that but remained between 25 and 50 books sold per day.

As I watch these numbers I experience a certain amount of shock and awe. There was a time when I considered 50 sales in ONE MONTH as a good month. This month I've sold over 1300 books worldwide, just in the Kindle Store; over 650 of those were Heartless. It may be possible to make a living at this writing thing after all.

I am deeply grateful to everyone who has taken a chance on one [or more] of my books, written a review, told their friends and family about it, or even just enjoyed the story. Thank you! ♥

In other writing accomplishments of 2012, I scored a fab job with InD'Tale Magazine as a regular columnist. I write serial romances—currently Regency-era—for this rising star in romance magazines. And I LOVE it!! ♥

Stay tuned for my first post of 2013 where I'll reveal my NEW goals—OK, I admit, some won't be new at all.

Heartless Gratitude

I am amazed and humbled by the amount of popularity Heartless is experiencing in the short week since its re-release. It is far more than I expected. I am not a very outgoing person and every time I put myself out there, whether in a book or simple blog post, it's not easy. I appreciate the support more than I can possibly express.

Two days ago I decided to check out Amazon's Hot New Releases in Regency Romance. I was never more shocked and pleased than when I found Heartless in the #56 spot. I've watched it since then and in that time it dropped down to #82 only to jump back up to #60. It is a thrilling experience!

If you'd like to get your very own copy of Heartless, CLICK HERE. If you don't want to or can't buy it right now, clicking the little "like" button on the book's page, tagging the book with appropriate tags, and telling your friends about the book are all great ways to show your support without costing you a penny.

Thank you, all, for your support!

~Just Released~ The Dragon's Birth...cont'd

~♥♥~ Now playing in my head: Chloë Agnew, Someday ~♥♥~

Forgive me for the multiple posts on this topic but my excitement knows no bounds. The Dragon's Birth is now available in the Kindle Store on Amazon. There's a handy link, just to the left here, that will take you right to the listing, should you be interested in checking it out.

If Amazon's not your cup of tea, there's still the listing at Smashwords, and soon (hopefully) it will appear on B&N, Kobo, Apple, Diesel, and a few others I can't think of off the top of my head.

And if you like to try before you buy, there's an excerpt (from the first edited draft, not the final) on my website and Smashwords allows you to read the first 10%. Amazon also will send an excerpt to your Kindle, if that's how you prefer to roll.*

Happy reading, writing, and blogging!!

*Edited at 12:54PM to add: I just sampled the Amazon version and they don't give any of the actual story, just the copyright page. Sorry about that. lol

Curiosity Forces Me to Try Something Different

I am curious about something. Amazon used to discount my Kindle books by 20% and sales were adequate. After the discount disappeared, sales dwindled.

I recently read an article from a self-published author who suspects that Amazon has decided not to offer the discount on self-pubbed titles anymore. This would be truly sad and a bit short-sighted on Amazon's part, but fairly typical of many these days. (I am self-pubbed, as well, just FYI.) At first, I thought she was probably right. Until I noticed my title Heartless.

Amazon took the discount from only three of my four titles. Heartless continued to enjoy its 20% discount. I don't know if this had something to do with Heartless having far better sales than the other three or not. When one is dealing with Amazon, one never knows what is actually going on.

I am participating in a sale at Smashwords.com. My books can be purchased for 50% off the list price of $4.95. This is accomplished with an easy-to-use coupon code which is displayed prominently on the pages of all the books participating. With Amazon, they do not offer the publisher/author a coupon or discount option. Discounting a title is something Amazon decides at their own discretion. To their credit, the author/publisher's "royalty" is based on the list price no matter how much Amazon decides to discount the product. Honestly, it's about the only positive thing I can say about Amazon lately. They are not the most author-friendly online bookstore.

That being said, I have decided to drop the price of my eBooks in Amazon's Kindle Store for a limited time. I want to see what happens. From now (July 15) until October 31, my books can be purchased from the Kindle Store for $2.95. If Amazon decides to discount them further, all the better for everyone. :o)

My $0.02: When to Mark a Review HELPFUL

There seems to be some confusion over the concept of "helpful."

You may have noticed that Amazon provides a nifty little button with every review for every Amazon product. It is a "helpful" button. At the end of every review, the reader is asked: "Was this review helpful to you?"

I must stress: This does not mean "Do you like this review?" It means exactly what it says: "Was this review HELPFUL to you?"

Actual definition of helpful: adj. providing assistance; useful*

If a review helps you decide the product is something you'd like, it is a helpful review. If a review helps you decide the product really isn't for you, it is a helpful review. If the review leaves you more confused than before you read it, it is NOT a helpful review. If the review gives away key plot points in a book or movie, it is NOT a helpful review.

And believe it or not, sometimes a review is neither helpful nor unhelpful.
