As you are probably very well aware, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The other day, I bought a pair of earrings from a lady who was raising money for her daughter's breast cancer treatment bills. I really wish I had had the money to buy more.
My maternal grandmother was 49 when she died; I wasn't even born yet. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and died nine months later.
I had a personal scare when I was 22. Because my grandmother was so young when she died of breast cancer, my doctor thought removing the tumor was the safest bet, even though, based on the ultrasound, she didn't think it was malignant. She was right but the fear is something I'll never forget.
I recently learned that a friend of my husband's family was diagnosed with breast cancer. We are, of course, hopeful for the best possible outcome.
Ladies, please, please, get your yearly or bi-yearly exams. Sometimes, it can be caught in time.
